After 75 years of dressing women in impeccable tailoring, the Italian fashion house debuts its first-ever fragrance, and it smells exactly the way a Max Mara coat feels.

For seven and a half decades, Max Mara has built its reputation on the idea that a garment is a second skin: a form of architecture that gives its wearer presence and confidence without ever raising its voice. Now the Italian house is extending that philosophy to the most intimate layer of all. Le Parfum, the brand’s first fragrance, arrives in South Africa this month, marking a landmark moment in its 75-year story.

A scent cut like fine cloth

Developed in partnership with Shiseido, Le Parfum is a textured woody floral, composed the way a tailor might approach a fine fabric. Some 90% of the ingredients are of natural origin, and the long-lasting formula is vegan.

At the top, a duo of tuberose opens the fragrance: a fresh bloom from Grasse paired with a creamy absolute from Guatemala. It is sensual and luminous, but never loud. At the heart, addictive vanilla spreads an enveloping warmth, like sliding into a cashmere lining. The base is where the fragrance finds its backbone. Raw, powerful natural-origin sandalwood and cedarwood add a bold hint of masculinity, creating what the house calls an oversized femininity, a nod to the generous proportions of its most iconic outerwear.

The result sits comfortably across the floral, woody and musk families, and echoes the timeless elegance of a Max Mara coat: structured, assured and endlessly wearable.

“When You’re Ready, You’ll Know”

The global campaign, which debuted on 24 August 2026, stars British actress Florence Pugh. Rather than depicting a dramatic transformation, it captures the quiet moment a woman realises she is ready, not because she has changed, but because she has aligned with herself. Pugh, contemporary, confident and independent, embodies the Max Mara ideal, and the imagery reflects the house’s belief that the most powerful elegance needs no spectacle, only mastery of silhouette, quality and presence.

How to wear it

Spray Le Parfum on the pulse points to wear it alone, or build a fuller scent trail by layering it into a ritual with the matching Max Mara Le Parfum Shower Gel and Body Lotion. Layering the three extends the sillage and lets the vanilla and woods linger on skin.
