Maid4U expands its domestic services model through franchising

Maid4U is expanding its franchise footprint across South Africa, taking its household services model into more communities. The company says locally led franchises will help connect households seeking domestic workers, nannies, caregivers and gardeners with screened, trained workers.

Founder and CEO Lindiwe Shibambo says her own experience in domestic work shaped the business. Her early jobs, she said, exposed a lack of training, clear job descriptions and structured work arrangements for both workers and households. Maid4U was registered in 2008 and became fully operational after the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

According to the September release, Maid4U supported more than 100 households in its first six months. As the business grew, it developed operating procedures, training programmes and quality-control systems that it now intends to replicate through franchising. Franchisees are expected to use the company’s brand, recruitment processes, training and household employment systems.

The service also supports households with employment contracts, payroll administration, UIF registration and Compensation Fund compliance. Maid4U says its approach is intended to make domestic services more professional while supporting worker training, employment security and local job creation. The company is also working to expand access to nationally recognised qualifications in the sector.

Shibambo says the goal is to build sustainable businesses while ensuring workers are properly prepared and respected. The franchise expansion positions a familiar household service as an opportunity for local entrepreneurs, while placing structure and training at the centre of the model.
