Heritage Day is a time for South Africans to come together, celebrate who we are and enjoy the things that connect us from our food and traditions to our stories, music and culture.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe! With Roarrs collected from across the country and brought together for The World’s Biggest Braai, the story gives media an opportunity to celebrate the people, personalities and traditions that make South Africa unique, while enjoying a moment of connection around one fire.
This Heritage Day, Simba is bringing South Africans together around one fire as the sponsor of The World’s Biggest Braai, presented and hosted by Big Save, taking place at Versveld, Loftus Stadium in Pretoria.
Over several months, following its brand restage, Simba has travelled across South Africa collecting authentic Roarrrs, the stories, sounds, personalities and expressions that capture what home means to South Africans. From radio and digital competitions to office parks, rugby matches and theme parks, these Roarrrs have come from different provinces, communities and generations, reflecting the many ways South Africans celebrate who they are and where they come from.
Now, those Roarrrs will come together at The World’s Biggest Braai, a celebration of South African heritage, connection and the unmistakable spirit of coming together.

For Simba, the braai is about far more than food. It is where conversations happen, stories are shared, traditions are passed down and people connect. It is one of the places where South Africa’s many differences can sit side by side around the same fire. One country. One braai. One massive Roarrr.
As part of the celebration, Simba will support an attempt to set a GUINNESS WORLD RECORD title for the World’s Biggest Braai. While the potential record is an ambitious part of the day, the bigger purpose is bringing thousands of South Africans together to celebrate the people, flavours, stories and traditions that make the country unique.
“South Africa has never been one story,” says Raylene Barlow, Senior Brand Manager, Simba. “We are made up of millions of stories, traditions, languages, families and experiences. That is what makes our heritage so special. With The World’s Biggest Braai, Simba wanted to bring those individual Roarrrs together around one fire. It is about celebrating what makes each of us different while reminding us of what we share the joy of coming together.”
The day will bring together the energy, personalities and flavours of South Africa, with the Roarrrs collected from across the country becoming part of a shared Heritage Day celebration. Beyond the action on the field, attendees can look forward to a range of exciting experiences, including a Simba activation stand where people of all ages can enjoy fun activities and stand a chance to win exciting prizes.
For Simba, it is a fitting way to celebrate Heritage Day: by bringing South Africans’ stories and traditions with them to the braai, and creating a moment that is proudly local, proudly South African and shared by all.
