Skin Certified SA Launches – Revolutionizing South Africa’s Skincare Industry

The South African skincare industry just took a massive leap forward, and it’s all about trading viral myths for verified science. In Johannesburg, the Dermatology Society of South Africa (DSSA), with the robust support of Neutrogena, officially launched Skin Certified SA.

This is the country’s first science-backed, dermatologist-governed certification standard for skincare creators and brands. The event was hosted by none other than actress and humanitarian Nomzamo Mbatha. As Neutrogena’s long-standing brand ambassador, Mbatha made history by becoming the first-ever Skin Certified creator. She earned the title after completing an online educational course on the new Skin Certified microsite, proving that true beauty is deeply rooted in knowledge.

Developed by esteemed DSSA dermatologists like Dr. Willie Visser, the curriculum covers everything from skin biology and evidence-based ingredients to ethical influence and myth-busting. Guests at the gala even got to explore the coursework firsthand using a roaming AI Bot, highlighting the digital innovation behind the movement.

During the event, Mbatha encouraged Neutrogena’s own squad of influencers to register and become the very first cohort of certified creators once the final platform goes live. This group will lead a skincare revolution, setting a brand-new benchmark for credible, safe content across South Africa.

As Dr. Visser explained, this initiative is a vital public health intervention. With fewer than one dermatologist per million people in much of Africa, consumers often seek skincare advice in a vacuum of misinformation. Skin Certified SA aims to change that by putting peer-reviewed science directly into the hands of influencers and their digital communities.

While Neutrogena acted as a founding supporter and champion, leveraging its 70 plus years of expertise, the brand has gracefully ceded all governance to the DSSA to ensure complete industry neutrality. The goal is to protect consumers from harmful trends and unite the beauty world under a single trust mark.

Soon, the official Skin Certified microsite will launch to the public, offering the DSSA-approved course to all influencers at no cost. Graduates will receive a digital badge, a certificate, and a spot on a public registry of trusted voices. As Nomzamo Mbatha beautifully noted to close the evening, trending does not mean true, and viral does not mean safe. Neutrogena is ushering in a new era of beauty content creation and consumption; it’s ethical, science-backed and accessible to the masses. Bravo!
